Overview
The Pima County Sheriff's Department continually recruits for positions other than Deputy Sheriff and Corrections Officer. Civilian opportunities are varied and include clerical, technical, service/maintenance, and professional positions. Some of these positions require working nights, weekends, and holidays. Civilian personnel play an integral role in dealing with the public and providing support to deputies and corrections officers in law enforcement and community service areas.
All positions with the Pima County Sheriff's Department require satisfactory completion of a background investigation, polygraph, and drug screen. The hiring process is very detailed and may take up to 6-8 weeks to complete.

Public Safety Specialist (Hiring Range: $17.36 - $20.40 Per Hour )
Job Description: The Public Safety Specialist provides administrative, investigative, or operations support within an assigned unit in direct support of law-enforcement or corrections operations, not requiring commissioned or certification as a law enforcement or corrections officer. It is distinguished from the Office Support and Administrative Services classifications by the nature of the specialized duties and requirements of the assigned work-unit in law enforcement or corrections support.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or General Education Development (GED) certification AND two years of public contact experience.
OR:
One year with Pima County as an Administrative Assistant I, Administrative Assistant II, or related position as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.
Safety Loss Prevention Officer (Hiring Range: $52,251 - $62,701 Annually )
Job Description: This position provides recommendations to Pima County Departments regarding environmental, safety and health, technical, regulatory and policy issues. Plans, analyzes and audits safety and health legislation and regulations; revising as necessary. Provides support for emergency response actions.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in safety, health, industrial hygiene, environmental science, environmental engineering, risk management or a closely-related field as defined by the department head at the time of recruitment AND three years of professional-level experience in the field of safety, health, industrial hygiene, risk management or environmental quality.
Fingerprint Technician I (Hiring Range: $19.14 - $22.49 Per Hour )
Job Description: Within a law enforcement agency, incumbents in the Fingerprint Technician I process and submit fingerprint and palmprint cards to the Arizona Automated Biometric Identification system (AZABIS); perform 10-print fingerprint comparisons using results of AZABIS searches and perform manual 10-print fingerprint comparisons to establish identity of subjects; researches, reviews, and updates information in criminal history databases; fingerprints suspects, detainees, applicants and sex offenders; registers sex offenders and maintains sex offender databases; provides expert testimony in court.
Minimum Qualifications: Completion of training or course work in fingerprint classification from an accredited community college or International Association of Identification (IAI) recognized training program. (Proof of training completion or coursework completion must be provided at time of application.)
OR:
One year of work experience fingerprinting subjects using ink and/or electronic livescan system. (One year of work experience either performing 10-print fingerprint comparisons or utilizing an automated fingerprint identification system (AFIS) is preferred. Experience limited to the use of livescan systems does not meet the preferred qualification standard.)
Records Technician II (Hiring Range: $20.10 - $23.62 Per Hour )
Job Description: Leading staff in the receipt, processing, sorting, storing, inventorying, retrieving, and delivering of records in a centralized records maintenance, storage, or archive facility for the Sheriff’s Department. Primary functions include working with redactions of reports, audio, and video in the Body Worn Camera Unit.
Minimum Qualifications: Two years of experience performing files maintenance (either electronic or manual) in a centralized records maintenance, storage or archive facility. (Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)
OR:
One year of experience with Pima County as a Records Technician I Sheriff's Department or similar level job classification performing file maintenance (either electronic or manual) in a centralized records maintenance, storage or archive facility.
Accountant I - Elected Officials (Hiring Range: $52,251 - $62,701 Annually)
Job Description: Performs professional financial accounting work within a financial division of an Elected Official’s office, requiring theoretical knowledge and understanding of the principles, practices, and methods of professional accounting. The Accountant I classification differs from Accountant II due to the level of complexity of assigned projects.
Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in accounting, finance, economics, public or business administration or a closely-related field as defined by the department head at the time of recruitment AND two years of professional accounting experience.
OR
Two years with Pima County in an Accounts Payable Specialist, Accounting Specialist, or closely-related position as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.
Corrections Cook I (Hiring Range: $16.54 - $19.43 Per Hour)
Job Description: The Corrections Cook I performs work in food production and service in a corrections/detention facility, performing volume cooking and preparation of regular and special diet foods according to prescribed menus and recipes; oversees inmates in food service work.
Minimum Qualifications: One year of experience in large-scale food preparation. (Large-scale food preparation includes food preparation in an institutional setting, e.g., hospital, nursing home, corrections/detention facilities, school or industrial plant cafeterias, large full-service and fast-food restaurants, commercial cafeterias/buffets, hotel/convention banquet facilities, military feeding facilities (ashore or afloat) or similar mass-feeding or catering operations.)
OR:
Completion of a culinary arts program through a career and/or technical school, community college or equivalent OR current ServSafe or equivalent certification.
Psychologist - Sheriff's Department (Full Range: $117,545 - $176,318 Annually )
Job Description: The Psychologist–Sheriff’s Department serves as advisor and clinical psychological specialist to the Pima County Sheriff's Department staff at all levels by providing a variety of professional psychological services.
Minimum Qualifications: An earned Ph.D. degree in psychology from an accredited college or university AND three years of postdoctoral experience as a consultant to a law enforcement or governmental agency or as a police psychologist.

Public Safety Transcription Technician (Hiring Range: $17.36 - $20.40 Per Hour )
Job Description: The Public Safety Transcription Technician transcribes recorded or written law enforcement officer reports into department-approved formats or onto required forms using computer-based resources to meet departmental and legal standards for content, accuracy and timeliness. It is distinguished from other clerical, administrative and Public Safety-related technicians and specialists by its primary focus on the accurate transcribing of legally sufficient reports and documentation.
Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) certification required at time of application.
Process Server (Hiring Range: $16.54 - $19.43 Per Hour)
Job Description: The Process Server locates individuals and serves them with subpoenas, summons, writs, notices of hearings and other related legal documents, and documents such activities as required by law. A Superior Court Process Servers Card is required at the time of application, per Arizona Rules of Civil Procedure 4(e).
Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) certification required at time of application.
Custodian II (Hiring Range: $16.54 - $19.43 Per Hour)
Job Description: Responsible for cleaning buildings, office facilities and surrounding areas.
Minimum Qualifications: Two (2) years of commercial, institutional, or industrial custodial experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.
OR:
One (1) year of experience with Pima County as a Custodian or closely related classification as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.
